Abstract
989,261. Railway vehicle transitional couplings. USINES EMILE HENRICOT S.A. Feb. 1, 1962 [Feb. 7, 1961], No. 4203/62. Heading B7T. A transitional coupling comprises a forked lever 5, Figs. 1 and 3, trunnioned at 12, 13 to the head 1, a lever 6 pivoted at 2 to the hook 3 and at 7 to the lever 5, levers 35, 36 pin and slot connected to the lever 6 and the carriage 4, and a spring 46 which acts against a pivot connection of the levers 35, 36 to hold them extended and the head 1 in coupling position, Fig. 1. The top of the lever 6 has bifurcations 28, 29 provided with lugs 30, 31, see also Fig. 2 (not shown), which engage for limited rearward movement in slots 26, 27 provided in guides 22, 23 bolted to the shank 11. The lever 36 is integral with a plate 40, Figs. 4, 7, and is pivotally connected through a pin 39 to the lever 35 which is in turn connected by a pivot pin 48 to a rod 49 extending downwardly through a plate 43, which plate 43 may be moved vertically on guide rods 41, 42 attached to the plate 40. The rod 49 has a widened or hook-shaped end 50 and extends through a Tee slot in the bottom plate 43, Fig. 6, so that in the position of Fig. 1 the rod 49 pushed by a spring member 51 centralizes in the plate 43 and engages its widened part 50 beneath the narrow part of the Tee slot, in which position the head 1 is resiliently supported by the hook 50, the links 35, 36 and the spring 46. The spring 8 between the levers 5, 6 permits slight longitudinal movement of the head when coupling. The head may be swung downwardly to the out of use position, Fig. 8, by pulling the portion 50 rearwardly against the spring member 51 until the rod 49 is decentralized and its portion 50 brought beneath the wide portion of the Tee slot, the part 50 may then move upwardly through the Tee slot and the plate 43 to allow the levers 35, 36 to fold and permit the head to pivot down.
