Abstract

2440. Birmingham Small Arms Co., and Norman, G. Jan. 30. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; sights.- Relates to rifles of the Lee-Enfield type, and consists (a) in a combined backsight mounting and charger guide comprising a bridge-piece 1, extending across the bolt-way, having at one side a depending limb 9 to the rear of which is a gap 8 to facilitate removal of the bolt, and (b) in a modified bolt-head and extractor to operate in conjunction with this bridgepiece. The bridge may be formed integral with the body, or it may be attached thereto by screws. The box-like lug 12, Fig. 3, containing the extractor is made smaller than is usual in Lee-Enfield rifles, and has a rib 16 engaging a corresponding groove in the side of the breech-body. The pivoted extractor 13, Fig. 6, has a spring 14 arranged under its tail 15.
