Variable - speed friction gearing, suitable for motor-vehicles, comprises disks or cones c, d mounted on the free ends of alined driving and driven shafts a, e, respectively. Wheels or rollers m, m<1> contacting with these cones are arranged on opposite sides of the axis of the shafts a, e and are carried by a cross-shaft f. The shaft f is slid longitudinally to vary the speed, and the rollers m, m<1> are mounted on spherical parts &c. so as to turn and also slide with the shaft. The shaft f may be mounted on a pivoted frame so that the rollers may be swung out of engagement.
