20,102. Maurer, L. Sept. 10. Variable-speed gearing.-Relates to continuously - variable friction disk driving-mechanism for motor road vehicles in which two driving-disks on the longitudinal shaft each drive one of two driven pinions mounted on transverse shafts connected one to each road wheel. The longitudinal shaft a, Fig. 1, carrying two driving disks d, e, is driven from the motor shaft 1 through the telescopic connexion 2, 3. The shafts 4, 5, carrying the driven pinions b<1>, b<2>, are mounted at their outer ends in pivotal bearings u, u<1>, and at their inner ends in eccentric bearings k, l carried in a bracket t on the shaft a. The eccentric bearings may be adjusted simultaneously in opposite directions so as to press the driven pinions b<1>, b<2> alternately into gear with the disks d, e for forward or reverse driving The shafts 4, 5 drive the road wheels R through chain gearing. The pinions b<1>, b<2> are traversed for varying the speed by means of a right and left handed transverse screw 6.
