Couplings, automatic, convertible to non-automatic.-The coupling is of the type described in Specification 10,855/09 in which the automatic coupler-head pivoted to the draw-bar is supported in position for use by rearwardlyextending arms bearing against the underside of the vehicle, and can be turned upwardly on its pivot to disclose the non - automatic hook. The raising and lowering are effected by an arm 18 which is pivoted to the hook 10 and carries a screwed spindle 17 co-operating with a nut 21 in conjunction with the supporting-arms 19: The arm 18 is channel-shaped with notches 18<11> in the side walls and with bevelled projections 18<1> on the rear wall. Fixed to the spindle 17 is a collar 17<1> which bears through a bevelled washer 20 against the projections 18'. The nut 21 is formed with bevelled shoulders 21<1>, and with trunnions 21<11> by which it is mounted in the arms 19. The spindle 17 is operated through sprocket gearing 8, 8' from either side of the vehicle. The weight of the coupler-head, in its raised position, Fig. 2, is transferred through the nut 21, the spindle 17, and the bevelled surfaces of the parts 20, 18<1> to the pivot pin of the arm 18, which in this position abuts against the underside of the vehicle. As the coupler-head is lowered, sliding movement occurs between the bevelled surfaces of the parts 20, 18<1>. In the lowered position, the notches 18<11> fit over the shoulders 21<1> of the nut 21.
