Abstract
19,693. Roellig, M. Sept. 30, 1911, [Convention date]. Motor power plant.-Relates to ships with two or more propellers of which one or more are not used. When the ship is moving at low speeds, the main engines are declutched and subsidiary small-power plant is used for driving the unused propellers at such speeds that they do not constitute a drag on the vessel. When one shaft b is in use, the engines d, f are declutched from the shafts a, c and the transmissions k of the small motors i thrown into gear. In order to cope with varying speeds of water passing the propellers on the shafts a, c, the current to the electrometers is controlled on the Ward-Leonard system.
