Abstract

14,087. Siemens-Schuckertwerke. June 21, 1911, [Convention date]. Mercury switches; electro-magnetic actuation. -A vessel having two limbs g, g<5>, Fig. 2, contains mercury which is displaced by an iron plunger attracted by current in the coil p. The plunger has a piston fit so as to give a dash-pot effect with the mercury as the retarding-fluid. At a given point electrodes g<2>, g<3> in the bottom of each limb are connected by the mercury. In another form, an additional winding is thrown in when the electrodes are connected in order to assist the first winding to maintain the plunger in position.
