Abstract

712,298. Electromagnetic interrupters. ULTRA ELECTRIC, Ltd. March 6, 1953 [May 6, 1952], No. 11443/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] A vibrating interrupter comprises a vibrating reed 1mounted on a magnetic core 2 which caries a main winding 5 energized from a source 7, and an auxiliary winding 6 in series with the supply 7, a fixed contact 4, a contact 3 mounted on the reed 1, and the primary winding p of an output transformer. When winding 5 is energized, reed 1 is attracted downwards, contacts 3, 4 engage, winding 6 is energized to produce an M.M.F. which opposes that of winding 5 and the reed is released to move upwards. This make and break at contacts 3, 4 interrupts continuously the current through winding p. Main contacts 8. 9 may also be operated. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the core has three limbs carrying respectively the windings 5, 6 and an output winding which is energized by periodic flux changes in the core limb which carries it.
