Button-attaching machines.-A button clamp is provided with means for opening a stitched button-hole in one flap of a garment to permit the stitching through the same of a flat button on to a flap beneath. The button is held between bifurcated upper and lower clamp members 32, 36 pressed together by a spring 51 and carried by a block 28 and is positioned by means of an arm 39. The block 28 is secured to a work plate 25 receiving appropriate jogging movements by means of the parts 41, 44, 47 as described in Specifications 4051/04 and 8125/08. The bifurcated end of the lower clamp member is downwardly flared at 35, and corresponds to an upwardly tapering projection 18 on the workplate. These parts, co-operating together, open the button-hole in an upper fabric n and permit the stitching of a button b to a lower fabric m.
