Abstract

Fanlight opening and closing apparatus; double windows, with lower sashes sliding and upper sashes hinged.-The lower sashes 11, 12 of a double window are balanced by cords 9 passing over pulleys 10 to counterweights and slide up between fixed guide-bars 14 and inner and outer sashes 24, 23 hinged at 26, 25 respectively to the window frame to open in opposite directions. The lower portions 15 of the bars 14 are detachably secured by bolts 16 and lugs 17 so that the lower sashes may be taken out of the frame, the sash-cords, which are connected to the sashes by snap-hooks, being temporarily held by hooks 20. The upper hinged sashes, which are connected together by links 22 pivoted to two armed levers 21, are opened and closed by means of a pivoted handle 35 connected by links 36 to a sliding bar 33, which is linked by a link 31 to an angle lever which is slotted to engage a pin on the sash 24. The lower portions of the inside lining of the frame are detachably secured by fixing-screws 39 and rabbets 38.
