Abstract

17,964. Richardson, G. T. Aug. 10. Window opening and closing apparatus; door opening and closing apparatus.-Relates to fanlights, doors, and the like, which may be swung inwards for cleaning. A pair of arms f, pivoted at their lower ends g<1> to the frame a and connected together at the upper ends by a bar h, carry a frame g on pivot pins f<1>. A fan-light b is hinged to the bar h and a second fan-light c is pivoted to the frame g preferably on the pins f <1>. The fan-lights may be swung outwards, as shown in Fig. 4, the arms f being held by the shoulder i on the frame a or may be swung inwards for cleaning, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, the inward movement of the arms f being limited by links j pivoted at one end to the frame a and engaging pins k on the arms by means of slots l. A link n connected at one end to the bottom of the fan-light b and at the other to a bolt o, shown in Figs. 6 and 7, carried by a plate p, sliding in guides q on the bottom of the fan-light c, enables the fan-lights to be swung outwards together, the operating mechanism consisting of links d attached at one end to nuts sliding on a screw and at the other jointed to a short link r provided with an eye r<1> engaging another bolt on the plate p which is limited in its movement by the screw p<1> and slot p<2>. A lug n<3> on the link n ensures the inner sash retaining its proper position with regard to the outer fanlight when closed, and a projection n' prevents the fan-lights from swinging outwards when the operating gear is disconnected. In a modification, the lower ends of the frame g also are hinged to the frame a and the arms f and frame g connected by a link. The inner fan-light may be dispensed with, if desired.
