Abstract

11,608. Kent, W. G. Nov. 15. Valves closing after predetermined interval or flow.-To close the valve v in a water main when a predetermined quantity of water has passed, the valve is operated by a piston p in the cylinder c. A counter g is actuated from a Venturi meter, and this counter actuates an electrical device h, which, on the predetermined quantity of liquid being passed, starts the motor i, which traverses a rack j to control the valve a. The valve a permits the liquid from the pipe u<1> to pass through the pipe x to raise the piston p and close the valve. To prevent the sudden closure of the valve, an exhaust valve y<1> is acted upon by the pressure in the pipe u<1> to restrict the exhaust passage in the event of a dangerously high pressure in the main.
