Abstract

186,605. Laguesse, E., and Winand, F. Sept. 29, 1921, [Convention date]. Addition to 186,067. Locking. - A safety locking-device for use on valves controlling pipe lines and of the kind described in the parent Specification which are arranged to lock the main valve closed in the event of an abnormal fall of pressure occurring in the outlet subsequent to the closing of the main valve. is actuated by the pipe-line pressure acting on a diaphragm. The diaphragm also actuates a supplementary valve to isolate the diaphragm chamber from the inlet when the outlet pressure is abnormally low. In the form shown, the plug of a main gas-cock has a slot to oo-operate with a locking-bolt 13 coupled by a hook 12 to a projection 11 on a diaphragm 9, a pull-rod 14 being similarly connected to a projection 10. The diaphragm chamber communicates with the outlet through a port 7 and with the inlet through a port 6 controlled by a valve 17 coupled to the diaphragm through a weighted lever 16. In a modification the axis of the locking-bolt is arranged at right-angles to that of the plug, and in a further modification the axis of the locking-bolt is arranged to one side of the axis of the pipe line. The lever 16 may be omitted. A modification of the float-actuated apparatus described in the parent Specification is described in which a supplementary valve is actuated by the fall of the float to seal the air vent to the inner chamber, or the vent may be sealed with a diaphragm.
