Abstract

176,783. Finley, C. H. March 7, 1921, [Convention date]. Dispensing liquids.-A pump is arranged to draw liquids from different sources and supply the same to corresponding separate faucets, which, when opened, automatically cause the pump to actuate controlling mechanism which establishes connection between the supply-pipe and faucet for the particular liquid desired. The controlling- mecha.nism comprises a valve casing 10 containing a balanced valve 11 having three piston portions 12, 13, 14 connected by reduced portions 15, 16, and the valve casing is connected to supplies of different kinds of liquid, for example, a soft-water supply by means of a pipe 18 and a hard-water supply by means of a pipe 19, also to corresponding faucets 21, 20 by pipes 23, 22. Also connected to the casing 10 by means of inlet and outlet pipes 24, 26 respectively is a pump 25, the positions of these several connections to the casing 10 relative to the valve 11 being as shown. Assuming that the faucets 20, 21 are closed and that hard water is required, the faucet 20 is opened and the pump started, which pumps hard water from its source by means of the pipes 19, 24 and delivers it to the faucet 20 through the pipes 26, 22. If soft water is then required, the faucet 20 is closed and the faucet 21 opened. The hard water from the pipe 26 then passes to the top of the valve 11 by means of a pipe 27 leading from the hard-water outlet pipe to an opening in a. plug 28 at the end of the casing 10 and exerts a pressure upon the valve, causing it to move downwards, thus closing the pipes 19, 22 and opening the pipes 18, 23 to allow soft water to pass from pipe 18 to the faucet 21. In a similar manner when the faucet 21 is closed and the faucet 20 again opened, the valve is operated in an upward direction by the soft water through the medium of a pipe 29 which is led from the pipe 23 to the bottom end of the casing 10, allowing a supply of hard water to be obtained through the faucet 20. The system may be used for other liquids, such as kerosene and gasolene.
