Abstract
7170. Brewer, R. W. A. March 23. [Cognate Application, 13,445/12.] Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.- Petrol is used at starting, and a heavier fuel for normal running. The heavy fuel is admitted past a tapered square needle valve B, Fig. 5, to a passage B<1>, to which air is admitted through an orifice A<1> controlled by an adjustable flattened screw. The needle is lifted by a suction - actuated air - valve a in an adjustable seating T. The mixture formed passes through an exhaust-jacketed coil wherein it is gasified, and then enters a mixing-valve D, Fig. 1, through a port O. This mixing-valve also has an air port P and a mixture outlet port Q. In a modification, the air port is shown of triangular shape, and a screw-adjusted piston sliding within the valve controls simultaneously the air and mixture ports. The control plug of the petrol carburettor E, Fig. 1, is connected to the mixing-valve D. A three-way cock G, Fig. 1, may connect either the petrol or heavyfuel carburettor to the engine, at the same time rotating a cock H to bring the corresponding fuel into use. The cocks H, G may be integral.
