Combustion Methods Of Internal-Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
1140. Mowbray, J. W. Jan. 16. Spray carburettors. - The spherical mixing- chamber A, heated by exhaust gases or water in the jacket A<3>, has projecting into it a vaporizing-chamber A<7> having at one end a valvecontrolled fuel-nozzle K<1> and air ports J<2>, and at the other end a right-angled extension A<8>. Additional air, to dilute the mixture issuing from the pipe A<8>; is admitted by a suctionactuated spring-loaded valve H controlled by a dash-pot I and connected by a lever L to the fuel-valve. Starting is facilitated by heating gasoline in a saucer C. A spring-loaded valve prevents damage from back-firing. When heavy fuels are used, water is admitted by a pipe D. In a modification, the air and fuel valves work independently, and the fuel-valve spindle is placed transversely to the fuel orifice.
