5277. Noble, W. March 3. Spray carburettors.-Light or heavy fuel sprayed from jets B, B' into tubes C, C<1>, to which the admission of air is controlled by plates G, G<1>, is admitted by a two-way valve D to a vaporizing- pipe E passing through the exhaust pipe J and thence, along with heated air, into the mixing- chamber o. The quality of mixture can be varied by means of a sleeve U which can be adjusted axially and angularly, and within which is an automatic valve V controlling both the air and mixture. This valve in its lowest position closes the air-port P but not the mixture-port S, giving a rich mixture for starting. A throttle valve R, a water jacket AZ for the mixing -chamber, and a dash-pot Y for the valve V are provided. The float-chambers and jet tubes are secured to the exhaust-pipe J by a clamp. The hot air is taken from a point near the exhaust-pipe.
