4678. Jung, R. Feb. 27, 1911, [Convention date]. Tandem - cylinder engines; compound engines.-A double-acting terminal-exhaust engine with a staged piston is shown in Fig. 1. The inlets of the high and low - pressure cylinders are controlled by piston valves 13, 14, 30, 31 operated by reciprocating cams, and the cylinders are provided with auxiliary exhaust valves 20, 21, 32, 33 similarly operated. The high-pressure main exhaust passes directly into a receiver which surrounds the low-pressure cylinder and acts as a jacket, and the high-pressure auxiliary exhaust passes to the receiver through pipes 28, 29 which pass through the jackets of the high pressure cylinder covers 9, 10.
