Cylinder Crankcases Of Internal Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
27,877. Adams, W. L. Dec. 18. Gas and explosive-vapour engines, cylinders for. In an engine having exhaust ports near the end of the outstroke of the piston, these ports being auxiliary ports and serving to reduce the pressure on the ordinary exhaust valve in the case of an engine working on the Otto cycle, the ports communicate with an annular chamber K, which is water-cooled above, below, and almost entirely outside, holes M, N being provided to permit of the drilling of the holes connecting the space K with the interior of the cylinder ; those holes M, N which are not required as exhaust passages are finally plugged up. The cooling casing T is secured by shrunk-on rings G, H.
