Abstract

22,423. Thomsen, W. B. Sept. 27. Cylinders, cooling.-In an engine having a separate vaporizing and combustion chamber communicating with the cylinder by a narrow port, and in which there is no clearance in the cylinder itself, thecombustion chamber is externally cooled in order to prevent premature ignition. The cooling is effected by ribs 7 connecting the cylinder to water-passages 8. Modifications are shown in which the combustion chambers are partly water-jacketed.
