Abstract

28,372. Allison, J. A., and Skinner, O. H. Dec. 16. Starting.-Measured charges of acetylene are supplied to each cylinder by means of a number of pumps the pistons of which are connected to a single handle. The gas, which is maintained at constant pressure in the pipe 24 by a pressure regulator (not shown) is drawn into the suction cylinder 11, and at the end of the stroke passes through ports 12 into the discharge cylinders. On the in-stroke, it is compressed into the cylinders past check valves 31. Other check valves may be placed at the entry of the discharge pipes 20 into their respective cylinders. The gas may also be supplied to the induction pipe until the engine is running well enough to draw in its normal charge.
