Abstract

21,820. Martinel, C. J., and Huxley, M. Oct. 3. Four - s t r o k e - cycle engines; pumps; cylinders, arrangement of ports in.-In an engine having inclined cylinders as shown in Fig. 1, the exhaust gases are withdrawn by a fan or pump, and compressed charges are delivered to. each cylinder through two or more inlet valves, such as 6, which open in sequence on successive cycles. A similar arrangement of exhaust valves, one of which is shown at 24, is also provided, and the inlet and exhaust valves are actuated from a four-to-one, or a suitably timed, cam shaft 20. The explosive mixture, which is delivered through an inlet pipe containing a throttle valve, is prepared by air discharged through a carburettor by a centrifugal fan.
