Link-work.-The mechanism shown in the Figure is applied to an internal - combustion engine and produces an approximately uniform acceleration and retardation of the piston. A piston rod H is attached to the end of a lever A which is pivoted at 1 and connected to a bellcrank lever B by a link C, the bell-crank lever being secured to a crank connecting - rod E. The stroke of the piston is varied by adjusting the end 1 of the lever A.
