Boxes; packing, metallic.-A compound metal packing - ring consists of a segmental ring a having a recess to receive a segmental ring b, the rings being arranged to break joint, and kept in their relative positions by dowel pins c on one ring entering elongated holes in the other ring. The outer circumference of the ring b is formed of a flatter curvature than the periphery of the recess in the ring a, and the ends of the segments of the ring a are cut away so that the rings a, b touch peripherally only along lines b<2>. The inner surface a<2> of the recess is bevelled. The ring a is grooved to receive a bracelet spring e. Two compound rings are arranged in a stuffing-box built up of sections f, f<1>, f<2>.
