[Cognate Application, 16,071/09.] Packing, metallic; packing, non-metallic.-In stuffing-box packing of the type in which sets of alternately hard and soft metal rings are employed, the hard-metal rings B are formed with knife-edges or angles so that when the rings a r e pressed together the material of the soft - metal rings A is forced outwards and inwards by the action of the knife-edges or angles. In a modification, each of the soft-metal rings is replaced by a pair of concentric soft-metal rings. Lubricant is supplied to a space formed by a lantern ring H, or in the gland. According to the Provisional Specification, the rings may be of material other than metal.
