Abstract

25,994. Harrison, B. S. Nov. 10. Glands and caps; packing, adjusting. - In. stuffing-boxes for joints between plates or walls and tubes in heaters &c., the plate 7, Fig. 2, has an annular projection 2 with a recess to receive an asbestos or like gasket 5 round the end of the tube 4. The gasket is retained by a split ring 6 sprung into place. In a modification, the gaskets are compressed by flanged rings 11, Fig. 4, held in place by disks 12 secured by bolts 13 screwing into the plate between the tubes. Each disk 12 engages the rings 11 of two or more adjacent tube joints.
