Abstract

25,993. Harrison, B. S. Nov. 10. Air-heating furnaces; joints.-Relates to packed expansion joints for the edges of metal plates forming parts of air-heating furnaces and the like. The plates 1, Fig. 2, are all of the same size, and have flanges 2 between which are placed asbestos &c. gasket packings 15', 6, 19. These are secured by cover-plates 17, 9, 18 bolted to the flanges. The plates 1 are assembled with intermediate air spaces 5 to allow for expansion, and the plate 9 is corrugated for the same reason. Fig. 6 shows a joint with a cover 13 which embraces the flanges 11, and Fig. 7 shows a corner joint with strips 23 bolted to a corner-block 20.
