9749. MarouzÚ, A., and Dusigne, R. L. April 21. Axles, construction of and mounting.-Crank axles for cycles &c. are formed of two interengaging parts B, B', the ends of which are provided with an interrupted screw-thread b, c adapted to engage a correspondingly-threaded sleeve H, in such a manner that, on a part rotation of the axle parts relatively to the sleeve H, the threaded portions become disengaged and the axle parts can be drawn apart laterally. The sleeve H can be prevented from rotating by means of a spring-pressed. bolt a, which is adapted to engage a recess 0 in the sleeve and to be held in this position by turning the lever M into a slot T. The sleeve is prevented from lateral movement by means of ring-members G'. The axle part B, when removed, carries with it the cone I and cover E, the axle part B<1> carrying the cone I' and cover E', so that the balls F can be examined.
