Abstract
21,806. Bradbury & Co., and Harvey, L. Sept. 27. Wheels, facilitating detachment of.-Relates to removable wheels of the type in which a through bolt is used to hold the hub - bearing sleeve b against the end of the sprocket-wheel bearing f which is secured to one of the frame forks h<1> of the cycle, so that when the bolt is removed, an axial movement of the hub a disengages clutch teeth thereon from clutch teeth on the sprocket-wheel d and permits the detachment of the hub. According to the invention, the bolt 3,2,1 is provided with two shoulders 4, 5, which engage a shoulder within the sleeve b and the outer end of the sleeve b respectively, as shown, in order to hold the hub sleeve b tightly against the sprocket bearing, and with pairs of flats i, g<1>, Fig. 4, which engage corresponding flats on the sleeve band in the frame fork h<2> respectively, thereby preventing rotation of the bolt and sleeve. In a modification, the flats i and the corresponding ones in the bore of the sleeve b may be omitted, in which case the sleeve is held against rotation by endlong pressure of the shouldtrs on the bolt. In a further modification, either the shoulder 4 or the shoulder 5 may be omitted, in which case the bolt is made with two diameters only, instead of with three as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The bolt may be provided with a flat-sided rotatable collar m, Fig. 5, which can occupy the position shown, so as to fill up the gap between the end of the hub and the fork, or can be turned so as to pass through the fork h<2> when the bolt is withdrawn. The detached wheel may be placed between the front frame stays.
