Abstract

2244. Heinrich, H. Jan. 28. Balt bearings.-In non-adjustable ball bearings with concentric races for the wheel hubs and axle brackets of cycles &c., the shell a is first completely bored or turned through from one side to the other and is then brought to the required internal diameter by grinding or milling, stops for the ball races being provided by two rings or a sleeve d introduced into and directly secured to the shell. As shown in Fig. 7, applied to the crank-axle bracket, the arrangement is such that by removing a nut o at one side of the bearing the parts may be removed and inspected. The bearing i<1> is held in position on the axle m, which is integral with the sprocket-wheel, by a nut n pressing the inner ring against the wheel. The bearing i on the left-hand side is forced to the right against a collar p by the nut o, so that after removing the left-hand crank and the nut o the axle and the bearing i' may be withdrawn together from the right-hand end of the shell.
