Ball bearings.-In a ball bearing for the crank brackets of bicycles &c., one of the outer races 13 is held by a nut 14 against a flange 18 in a sleeve 5, and the other outer race 15 is free to move axially in a contracted part of the sleeve, so as to be self-adjusting. When the left-hand crank 2 is removed, the axle 1 together with the bearings can be withdrawn from the right-hand end of the sleeves 5, the race 15 being small enough to pass within the flange 18. The inner races consist of grooved collars 11 on the axle, or separate inner races may be used. held by nuts against shoulders on the axle or against the ends of a separating-sleeve. The sleeve 5 is detachably secured to the casing 6 by screws 7, or the ends of the casing may be slit and provided with clamping-lugs.
