Abstract
15,398. Hess, H. July 1. Securing bearings on shafts.-The inner race of a ball bearing is secured to a shaft by means of a coned sleeve F, Fig. 1, which may be split at h, and has a flange G provided with a deep screwthread g. A nut H on the threaded part G bears against the race C and thus binds the coned sleeve F on the shaft A. The nut H is split and is locked by a clamping-screw. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which two coned sleeves are used, the bore of the race C being cylindrical. The nut H on the sleeve F<1> bears against a collar i on the sleeve T. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the race C is clamped by a nut M against a shoulder k on a coned sleeve K, and the nut H<1> on the sleeve F<2> has a flange L engaging a flange on the sleeve K to draw the two sleeves together. In another modification, the nut is threaded on to a flange on the outer sleeve K and has a groove engaging a rib on the inner sleeve F<2>.
