Abstract

Pedals.-A bicycle pedal is mounted on a spindle having an elongated cylindrical body portion at one end, a head 15 at the other end, and an intermediate threaded portion, the spindle being passed through a hole in the end of the crank 12' and secured by a nut 16 which also serves to hold the pedal in position on the spindle. The pedal comprises a pair of end plates 21, 23 connected by studs 18 carrying the rubber treads 20, and is mounted on inner and outer bearing sleeves 27, 26 connected by a spacing-tube 28. The outer sleeve 26 has a shouldered head 25 which engages an opening in the end plate 23, and a space 36 for lubricating-material is provided between the end of the spindle and the head. Another lubricating-space 29 is provided between the sleeves. The inner sleeve is formed with a head 33 engaging a recess in the end plate 21, and the head itself is formed with a recess to receive a flange 39 on the nut 16. This flange engages the end wall of the plate 21 and holds the pedal in position on the spindle. The opening in the crank may be screw-threaded as shown, or may be formed with a plain cylindrical surface cooperating with a similar surface on the spindle.
