Compound tilers; partitions in water space; priming, preventing.-An auxiliary generator for producing Igh-pressure steam is superposed on the furnace flue of a boiler, particularly a boiler of the maine type. An inverted trough forming an auxiliary generator 9 is placed longitudinally upon, and secured to, the middle flue of a three-flued marine boiler. Water is supplied to the generator through a pipe 13 containing a check-valve 14. The generator may be flooded from the main boiler by opening a valve 43 in a passage connecting the valve 14 and the main check-valve 41. When the generator is flooded, it is placed in communication with the main boiler at the water-level through a pipe 44. Steam is led from the generator by a perforated pipe 22. The sides and top of the generator are strengthened by cross-stays 18.
