9665. Sage, W. J. April 23. Partitions in water space; priming, preventing. - The water circulation in a boiler is increased by arranging two sets of deflecting-plates in the water space so that the water deflected by the first set is, after rising, deflected by the second set in a parallel but opposite direction. As applied to a marine boiler, parallel plates c are arranged under the fire-tubes, and are kept in position by side plates d. Similar deflecting- plates e are arranged just below the water-level, and are of such width as to cover the top row of tubes. Additional plates f may be employed at the side of the boiler. Guide-plates g may be fitted where the circulation necessitates sharp turns; these plates also prevent priming.
