16,436. Steinm³ller, L. July 17. Water-tube boilers. - Relates to boilers with vertical tubes connected to upper drums and arranged on both sides of the usual group of inclined tubes. According to the present invention, additional inclined tubes c are fitted in flues on both sides of the boiler and are utilized for the preliminary heating of the water. These additional tubes receive water from partitioned spaces in the drums h and return it again to the drums, where it overflows the partitions h<1> and enters the tubes b. Each group of tubes c may be subdivided as shown in Fig. 5. The water is then fed into the bottom rows by the pipe f<1> and is passed backwards and forwards several times before entering the drums h. Dampers k enable the gases to be distributed uniformly amongst the tubes c.
