7255. Schwab, J. March 25. [Addition to 6767/12.] Flues, external.-In a multibular boiler, the furnace gases pass once beneath the boiler shell in one direction and then pass successively backwards and forwards through groups of fluetubes. In the boiler shown, the flue between the end of the boiler shell and the setting is divided by a transverse baffle 11, which compels the gases, after passing beneath the boiler shell, to pass forwards through the lower group of tubes D and backwards through the upper group C. The gases may then pass along the top of the boiler to the uptake G, or they may pass directly into an uptake at the back of the boiler.
