Abstract

27,655. Robinson, M. Nov. 30. [Addition to 8559/11.] Compound boilers; partitions in water space; priming, preventing. - The auxiliary generator 9 mounted on the furnace-flue 1 is connected to the boiler bv a return pipe F in order that the generator may, if desired, be connected to and form part of the boiler. The return pipe is fitted with a valve E at the generator end, and is connected to the junction - pipe G between the boiler checkvalve 41 and the generator check-valve 14. A three-way cock H in the pipe H so regulates the working of the generator that, by suitably operating the valves 41, 14 and E, (1) the generator is flooded with hot water from the boiler, (2) feedwater passes through the generator before entering the boiler, and (3) the generator is independent of the boiler. The generator steam-pipe 22 is connected to a pipe I communicating with an auxiliary steamvalve 47 on the boiler and provided with a valve 46 in front of the connexion with the pipe 22. The perforated part of the steam-pipe inside the generator is covered by a perforated baffle to prevent priming. The boiler and generator safety-valves 28, 27 are connected by a steampipe L, and are provided with valves 50 by means of which the safety-valves may be cut off in case of failure, and which, when both of the valves are in operation, allow steam to pass through the pipe L and blow off through the safety-valve offering the least resistance. The valve 50 on the generator safety-valve may be provided with a connexion for conveying excess steam to the boiler.
