Locomotive boilers; feed-water, supplying; partitions, internal; scum apparatus; washing-out.- Relates to steam generators, more particularly of the locomotive type, of the kind having separate feedwater - heating and steam - raising portions within one shell, and consists in providing improved means for supplying the feed-water, for removing grease, and for washing-out the boiler. The generator, Figs. 1 and 2, is divided by a plate e into a feed water-heating portion a and a steamraising portion b. Feed-water is supplied to the bottom of the portion a through pipes g which may first pass through the smoke-box as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. Pipes h convey water from just below the lowest water-level in the heater a to the bottom of the steam-raising portion b. To remove grease from the heater a, a trough i is arranged just below the normal water-level, and the water thereon is blown out through a cock k. For washing out the portion b, a spray pipe o is provided, fitted with a hose connexion p, Fig. 2. Additional washing-out pipes q, extending from the smoke-box and normally closed by plugs r, are provided. The two portions of the generator are provided with sediment collectors m, t. The steampipe to the engines from the steam dome s may pass through a hole in the plate e or may rest upon the top of the plate e, which in this case does not extend to the top of the generator.
