Abstract
2051. Hamill, W. W. Jan. 27. Spray carburettors. - A suction-actuated air valve 24 is connected by a transverse pin 21 to a sleeve 19 which slides over a fuel-nozzle of the type described in Specification 21,090/10. The orifice 15 of the nozzle is adjusted by a milled head 17 and is further controlled, simultaneously with the air supply, by diametrically opposite triangular openings 20 in the sleeve 19. Between this sleeve and the air-valve is a primary air passage 23 in which the velocity of the air remains constant. The air-supply pipe is attached to a flange 9 on an adjustable and detachable sleeve 4. The base portion 13 is adjustable, and is secured by screws entering the casing 10. Fuel from the float chamber is filtered by gauze 39. The upper portion of the air-valve has ports 26 and works in a recess 28 which serves as a dash-pot. The throttle-valve 29 controls also a gauze-covered air-port 33, which may be open when the throttle is closed. In a modified construction, the dash-pot is at the lower extremity of the air valve and the main air is filtered 'by gauze. The Provisional Specification also states that a window may be provided to view the working of the air valve.
