Smoke, consuming.-The smoke &c. from the bituminous coal on the grate 1 passes, on its way to the boiler 13, through a coke or like smokeless fire on a water-tube grate 8. Air is supplied by regulable inlets 15, 17 between the grates and above the second grate, and the coke &c. is supplied by means of a hopper. The two grates may be parallel or otherwise arranged.
