Abstract

12,721. Barnhurst, H. R., and Barnhurst, H. G. May 25. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces.-Powdered anthracite, coke breeze, and other dust fuels are injected into a combustion chamber shaped so as to cause products of combustion to return upon themselves in the form of a loop, the gases, after leaving the chamber, serving to heat the wall along which the stream of fuel is directed. As shown, pulverulent fuel from the pipe b, together with air drawn in through the surrounding conduit c, is directed along the underside of a thin arch a forming the roof of a combustion chamber C. The gases sweep round the chamber, and escape through an opening d to a flue e above the arch a. The combustion chamber is heated-up by a wood fire and powdered bituminous coal.
