Abstract

203,144. Perry, W. P. Aug. 1, 1922. Producers.-Apparatus for gasifying carbonaceous materials comprises a structure having a lowered wall 9 surmounting a smooth wall 4 and provided with gas generators 6 at the base of the smooth wall so arranged that the hot gases from the generators pass through and distil the material resting on the louvres and the gases and distillates escape by an outlet pipe 11. The material finds its angle of repose on the louvres, and baffles or arches 15 may be provided to deflect the flow of the material so that the bulk of the hot gas will pass through it. A rectangular form of apparatus may be adopted in which the louvres are in substantially the form of a plane. Ash discharge means 13 are provided in the space below the grates 7.
