185. Smith, H. P. Jan. 4. Spigot-and-socket joints held by cement.-In cement joints in which the annular space between the pipes is covered by a ring of canvas, this is fixed to the internal periphery of the socket by a spring-in metal ring. The canvas 1 preferably surrounds a metal wire ring 2, which is sprung into a groove 3 in the socket 4. The other end of the canvas is preferably formed with a pocket through which a wire 7 is inserted, and tightened round the spigot by twisting its ends together. Cement is then introduced through a hole in the socket.
