Lighting - torches, electricc. - An electric gas igniter comprises a hand device in which a slidable sparking-terminal B carries a pivoted removable spring contact-member 19, the end 23<1> of which engages, during actuation, with a slotted sparking- terminal C. The cylinder A has finger hooks 16, 17, so that the rod B can be readily operated by the palm of the hand. As the rod B is pressed forwards, the contact member engages with the end of the fixed electrode, and the pin 30 engages with the spring 27 to complete the sparking-circuit, further movement of the rod B producing a spark. On the return movement, the pin 30 is disengaged from the spring 27 before the member 19 breaks away from the fixed member C. A spring 26 is provided to control the movements of the contact member 19.
