Abstract
18,680. Dier, F. F., and Primeau, M. Aug. 13. Lighting-torches, electric.-For lighting gas &c., more especially in connexion with stoves, sparks are produced by a cylindrical hand instrument 10, which has insulated spring plates 22, 25 connected with a battery. A spring plate 15, with a press-button 18, is adapted to be forced into contact with the end 22<1> of the plate 22 by hand pressure. With further pressure, the plate 15 also contacts with the spring 25 to close the circuit, the spring 15 then being forced past the end of the spring 22 and causing a spark. When the pressure of the hand is released and before the spring 15 escapes the end 22<1> of the spring 22, the spring 15 is bowed upwards out of contact with the plate 25, so that there is no spark formed as the parts return to the normal position.
