Abstract

1366178 Piezoelectric lighters SWELEXTEKNIK AB 20 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 58813/72 Heading F4F [Also in Division H2] A gas lighter comprises a pushbutton 8 operative on being pressed to cause a spring 7 to effect the striking of a piezoelectric element 2 by a hammer 5 to produce a spark between the body of the lighter and an electrode connected to an insulated lead 10, the spring 7 being bent so that in its inactive position it holds part of hammer 5 displaced laterally from the axis of movement of pushbutton 8, whereby, when the latter is presed, the hammer at first engages the end of a sleeve 4, while the spring 7 is being compressed, the part of the pushbutton which faces the hammer being so shaped that when being pressed against the hammer it moves said part of the hammer towards said axis out of engagement with sleeve 4 whereupon the then compressed spring 7 causes hammer 5 to strike the element 2. The spark-gap may be formed in a lighter-head shaped like a scoop for decreasing the gas velocity in order to effect lighting of high-velocity gas.
