Abstract

1319051 Piezo-electric igniters KIGASS Ltd 15 July 1970 [15 April 1969] 19105/69 Heading F4F [Also in Division H2] In a gas igniter comprising at least one piezo-electric element 26 in abutment with an anvil 25 adapted to be struck by a manually actuated, spring-loaded hammer 37, the hammer is carried by a leaf-spring 38 and a trip mechanism in the form of a reciprocable, spring-loaded rod 39 is provided for stressing and releasing the spring. As shown, the spring is U-shaped, one limb being attached to a flange 12 on a two-part body 10 (13) and the other limb carrying the hammer at its outer end. The rod 39 is supported by the body and urged by a spring 42 to the position shown. Pressure on a push-button 40 at one end of the rod causes a pin 41 at the other end to withdraw the hammer from the anvil against spring 38 until the latter spring has flexed sufficiently for the hammer to clear the end of pin 41 whereupon it returns to strike the anvil. On release of the push-button, the pin 41 rides along a conical surface on the hammer, at the same time twisting the spring 42, and finally snaps behind the hammer to the re-set position shown. Two piezo-electric elements 26, 28 are provided which are enclosed in an insulating casing 20 together with the anvil 25, the casing being loosely supported in the body part 10 and loaded by a spring 44 so as to press the anvil and elements 26, 28 against an intertia block 34. A central terminal 27 between the elements 26, 28 is engaged by a spring-loaded contact 30 on the end of a conductor leading to a spark gap adjacent a burner.
