Abstract

20,504. Simonin, H. Sept. 7. Sulphur. - Waste from the purification of illuminating gas is treated with ammonia solution and then with water to extract nitrogen compounds, and is then dried preferably by hot air or waste gases, the temperature being raised high enough to distil off the tars and naphthalene. Sulphur is distilled from the residue, air being admitted at the end to burn off any sawdust that may be present, leaving iron oxide.
