Abstract

312,769. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). April 26, 1928. Purifying processes.-Water gas and producer gas, laden with flue dust, combustion residues, &c. are freed from sulphur compounds and the dust by adding air or other oxygen-bearing gases or oxygen and ammonia to the hot gases whilst a temperature of about 100-300‹ C. is maintained. The addition of ammonia may be unnecessary if the original content present is sufficient. The dust acts catalytically to induce the oxidation of the sulphur compounds and the sulphur deposited is removed with the dust by any convenient mechanical or electrostatic means. Gases produced by the process described in Specifications 214,544 and 279,316, [both in Class 55 (i), Coking &c.], may be purified in this way. Gases containing excessive dust are first partly freed by usual methods.
